Planning Your Visit – Before & After Your Session

COLON HYDROTHERAPY

When planning your colon hydrotherapy session, it is a good idea to prepare yourself.

We offer the following suggestions to help you get the most out of your session:

  • If you are not currently doing so, please drink ½ your body weight of water in ounces, per day, about a week before your session. The reason for this is: if you come to us hydrated, we can spend more time cleaning your colon as opposed to hydrating.
  • Although it is not necessary to adjust your diet prior to receiving a colonic, it can be helpful when choosing to maximize the effects of your sessions and reduce possible discomfort. Refrain from eating foods that cause gas or are congesting.
    These foods can include:

    • Dairy products
    • Fried foods
    • Wheat
    • Corn
    • Sugar
    • Sodas (or anything carbonated)
    • Alcohol
    • Caffeine

BIO ELECTRIC LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

It is important to plan for your Bio Electric Lymphatic Drainage (BELD) session. Please adhere to the following to achieve the best results:

  • Come in for your session with dry skin – refrain from showering or bathing at least 3-4 hours prior to your session.
  • Do not wear any lotion, oils, deodorant, perfume, or makeup (if you want us to include your face).
  • You might consider leaving your jewelry at home, as we will need you to remove all metal prior to the session.

DOs & DON’Ts

DO

  • Do give yourself plenty of time to get to your appointment on time. When receiving healing sessions, it is advisable to reduce the stress we encounter when we are late. It can be hard on our bodies to release when we are in stress mode.
  • Do give yourself time after your session to rest, if that is what your body needs to do.
  • Do eat light foods for the remainder of the day following your session. (We can provide you with a list of suggestions.)
  • Do drink plenty of pure water.
  • Do take deep breaths often.
  • Do stay present with how you are feeling, both physically and emotionally.
  • Do accept that if you are late for your session, you will be shortening your own session.
  • Do respect our 24-hour cancellation policy. This ensures that respect is being given to our therapists for their time.
  • Do feel free to ask us any questions that you may have!

DON’T

  • Don’t over schedule yourself following a session. Depending on the amount of stress in your body, you might feel tired after your session and we suggest you allow the time you might need to rest.
  • Don’t drink any carbonated or caffeinated drinks after your session. Carbonation can cause gas and following a colonic can be extremely painful and/or uncomfortable. Caffeine can dehydrate your body and we want you to stay hydrated for as long as possible after your session.
  • Don’t eat heavy or fried foods after your session. This can make you feel very uncomfortable and can cause gas. You can resume your normal diet the following day.
  • Don’t exercise intensely unless you feel your body indicates that this would be fine for you. Let your body guide you.
  • Don’t engage in stressful situations. Allow yourself to connect with the peace you might feel following a session.

FAQ

What is colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy (also known as colonics, high colonics, colon cleanse, and high enemas) is the gentle cleansing of the colon (also known as the large intestine) using purified water. We use all disposable, one-time use tubing for our client’s safety. A well-lubricated speculum is self-inserted by the client a few inches into the rectum. The colon hydrotherapist gently introduces purified water into the colon using slow pressure. The client allows the water to fill their colon and may, at first, feel like they have to have a bowel movement. This is normal due to the pressure filling the colon. The pressure continues to increase slowly until the client feels like they are full and at that point, the colon hydrotherapist releases the water pressure. The client releases both water and waste material through the disposable tubing, through the colon therapy instrument, and out into the sewer. This process is repeated a few times during the session. The number of times that the client fills and releases may vary from person to person and session to session.

What is metaphysical colon hydrotherapy?

Metaphysical colon hydrotherapy is a style of colonics that I have created and named Iyasu, which means “to heal” in Japanese. It takes traditional colon hydrotherapy a few steps further. Many colon therapists offer colonics with a focus on healing from a predominately physical point of view – utilizing nutrition, supplements and lifestyle changes to promote healing. Years ago, I began to realize when clients shared personal, emotional experiences with me during their sessions, their body opened up and released more physically. Consequently, I created a new way of offering colonics that incorporates the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects that make up the human experience of healing. During a metaphysical colonic, the body communicates with us in a very unique and meaningful way. Consider booking a metaphysical colonic to experience colon hydrotherapy on a whole new level!

How much time should I allow for a session?

Plan on being with us for at least an hour. You will need a few minutes at the beginning of your session to change into the gown and about 5-10 minutes after the session. The sessions themselves run about 40-45 minutes. This is your session, so if you feel that this is too lengthy, you have the option to come off the table at any time. Your comfort and safety is our priority and your needs will be respected at all times.

Does colon hydrotherapy hurt?

Some people experience some discomfort during a session. Many people have no discomfort at all. Some clients do feel pain and this depends largely on the physical condition of the client, their toxic load and how they react during the session (for example: tensing up and holding our breath will make the discomfort worse). We are very experienced colon hydrotherapists and use different techniques to help deal with discomfort and pain. It is our goal to make our client’s experience as relaxing as possible and may utilize breathing techniques to help the client release more easily, thereby reducing the amount of discomfort or pain the client may be feeling at that time. Further, if a client experiences discomfort during one session, it doesn’t mean that will be their experience every time.

It seems embarrassing… is it?

It is our utmost priority to maintain the dignity of every client we see. At the beginning of the session, we provide a modest gown that the client changes into and we ensure that the client stays covered during the entirety of the session. We understand that colon hydrotherapy can be a vulnerable and uncomfortable experience for first-time clients. We will explain everything that we will be doing before we do it and answer the client’s questions in full before proceeding. We can handle any situation that might arise and do so with the sensitivity that our clients expect.

We understand that releasing in front of another person might feel embarrassing to some. This is one of the main reasons why we massage so much during the session. We want our clients to feel safe, relaxed, and comfortable and this can provide a distraction as well.

How will I feel after the session?

We can’t say definitively how a client will feel after the session. Some of our clients feel very energetic, physically light, and mentally clear. Others feel very tired. When we receive a colonic, we are not just releasing our physical waste, but emotional stress as well. When we are holding stress in our bodies, it takes up a lot of our energy. Many clients report a feeling of relaxation and stress reduction because we are accessing the emotional body through the physical during a colonic. Most clients feel perfectly normal and go about their day a little cleaner than when they first came in!

What can I do after a session?

I tell my clients to let their body guide them when planning the rest of their day’s activities. If you have the energy to exercise, then by all means, go right ahead! But if you feel tired, I encourage you to take it easy, drink plenty of water, and eat lightly for the rest of the day. Every person is different and has different needs. If you are unsure about how to plan your day after your session, I can help evaluate you at the end of your session and offer suggestions, if need be.

How many sessions will I need?

Each person we see is unique and as such, we suggest that you come in for a session and together we can discuss the best course of action to ensure we can address your specific needs. We look at your present health goals, the level of self-care that you practice, and work with you to adjust your lifestyle accordingly.

Over the years, I have come to the realization that the process of cleansing the body can take time. It might seem that inserting water into the colon would automatically produce a large release of waste material. Because we are human beings and many factors come into play, it is not a simple matter of just clearing out the waste in the colon. There are emotional factors as well as physical and who we are today is a culmination of past lifestyle choices. Together, we can look at which choices are working and which are not, and in doing so we can come up with a plan, which includes colon hydrotherapy and bio electric lymphatic drainage.

We consider everything when making suggestions about future appointments. In addition, we respect your financial and time considerations when choosing a direction to support your health.

What are some of the factors you refer to above?

Some of these factors can be:

  • Are we dehydrated? Do we drink enough water to stay hydrated?
  • Do we breathe deeply or shallowly?
  • How quickly do we eat?
  • Do we eat gas-producing foods/drinks?
  • How much stress are we under when receiving the colonic?
  • Do we find it hard to relax?
  • Do we feel comfortable having bowel movements? Is it a challenge to release our bowels?
  • Do we find it embarrassing?
  • Does control play a part in our colonic (and our lives)?
  • Are we afraid of making a “mess”?
  • Do our prior experiences moving our bowels play a part?

All the factors listed above can play a part in how our bodies release during a session. Another factor is the condition of our body/health when we come in. For example, let’s say that during our childhood, our diets were not particularly healthy. We grew up with a family that ate mostly bread, meat, dairy and not a lot of veggies or fruit. Perhaps we continued that type diet for most of our adult life and then somewhere in our 30s to 40s we start to realize that we don’t feel well. We might be carrying some extra weight or our energy is low. We decide to jump start our diet so we come in for a colonic. If we experience big releases, it may seem that we have absolutely let go of everything in our colon. That may or may not be true. When we have a colonic, we are not necessarily experiencing a complete evacuation of our colon. It has been my experience that most people release in stages. Typically, when someone starts with a series of three sessions, they release more each time they come in. I believe that is because the person becomes more comfortable with the therapist, knows what to expect from the session, and the body remembers how it opened and let go the previous time. The best way to start to connect with your body on a deeper level is to come in for a couple sessions and see how you feel each time.

How do I book colonics with my cleanse?

We suggest that you always begin a cleanse with a colonic, either the day before or the day you start. The type of cleanse can determine the ideal frequency of sessions. For example, if you are doing a 21 day cleanse, we might suggest coming in at the start of the cleanse and at the end of each week. If you are doing a juice fast, you might want to come in more often because many people who are fasting typically don’t move their bowels very often. It’s a good idea to understand your body to determine how to plan your colonics. When detoxing your body, you need to be releasing your bowels daily, otherwise you may not be getting the maximum benefit from your cleanse. Not sure? Just call and ask us!

I was referred to you by my doctor/health practitioner – will you work with them?

With your permission, I will work closely with your doctor/health practitioner. Following your session, I will contact your health practitioner and give them an overview of your session and any impressions I may have. I will only reveal information that you give me permission to share.

What happens in an actual Bio Electric Lymphatic Drainage session?

A bio electric lymphatic drainage session starts off similar to a regular massage. The client disrobes and lies down, face up, in between two sheets. The therapist starts by checking the condition of the lymphatic system, as it presents on the client’s body.

As described in the Inspiration™© instruction manual, the therapist starts the session by gliding Inspiration’s high frequency, photon energy wand lightly over the surface of the skin. This allows energy currents to move through the tissue and knock electrons off cells, falling into body fluids and creating a negative charge. These cells move into the flow of fluids, moving through the blood and lymph channels. By breaking debris into tiny particles and ushering out the waste through the lymphatic network, the pressure of the lymph is raised, creating an expansion by improving the pressure differential between the high pressure of the blood and the low pressure of the lymph. This creates a channel of transportation of nutrients to areas of the body, previously deprived. Life energy is now able to travel into the areas of the body that were closed off.

Next, the therapist utilizes manual lymphatic drainage massage techniques, which is very light in pressure, to give the lymph direction. This will encourage the lymph to move and release waste material back into the circulatory system. This session is very relaxing and some clients fall asleep!

Many clients receive a colonic immediately after a bio electric lymphatic drainage to support the cleansing effects of the session. We encourage clients to drink plenty of water after a session for the same reasons.
